Gyttorp

Gyttorp is a small mill town where gunpowder and cartridges are manufactured. There is a risk of explosions in such activities. For Erskine, this became an argument for building the small community with vaulted roofs, so that a pressure wave would not cause so much damage. He was commissioned after an enthusiastic article about him in the magazine Hem i Sverige. Erskine often appeared in the press, but the response was not always enthusiastic. The weekly newspaper Året runt spared no effort in its criticism of the houses in Gyttorp. Stopping him was "the most urgent task at the moment in Swedish cultural preservation". Today, Erskine's colourful houses in Gyttorp are protected as listed buildings.
