Villa Gadelius

The villas gave the architect Erskine a lot of room for experimentation. The concrete villa on Lidingö was created for a businessman with strong ties to Japan, and the house also bears a Japanese purity. The exterior is characterized entirely by glass and concrete, which was originally left unpainted while the interior was almost entirely white. The house opens up with large windows and terraces to the sun to the south; The entrance side on the other hand is very enclosed. As in many other projects, Erskine allows additions such as balconies to stand free from the house. The principle of separating different structures is a characteristic of Erskine's architecture.
