Villa Engström

The interest in northern building types such as the igloo, curiosity about new technologies and observations of how people in the Nordic countries use their homes led to a dome-shaped house with many patios. The client was the director of a mechanical workshop, where the structure of this archipelago house outside Nynäshamn was also prefabricated. The 16 wedge-shaped elements are made of three-millimetre sheet steel. The concrete rooms in the outdoor environment are just as important as those inside. The windows are few and small to economize with the heat, but the placements still make the inside open and bright. However, the idea of mass producing the house fell through. Only one was built.
